After the death of her husband of 42 years, a successful career in banking and a brief hiatus as a self-proclaimed beach bum, Evelyn Gregory fulfilled her childhood dream and became a flight attendant. Initially rejected by several carriers, she was hired by Mesa Airlines in 1999 and earned her wings at the age of 71. For six years she divided her time between teaching flight attendants and making regular flights on US Airways Express out of Charlotte, North Carolina. As a result of some health issues, she retired in June of 2005 at the age of 77.
