JEAN KAROTKIN, Photographer

"My life began the day I was diagnosed with breast cancer," says Jean Karotkin. At age 46, Karotkin began to dream of publishing a book of photographs of other breast cancer survivors--even though she'd never taken a professional photograph before. Five years later, she was exhibiting her black and white images at the prestigious Houston Center for Photography and having her work featured in Oprah and Rosie magazines. Her images reflect the optimism, beauty and strength of women from different parts of the country and all walks of life. Her book, Body & Soul, was published by Emmis Books in the fall of 2004.
